The Cévennes Gardons (rivers) consist mainly of three rivers that originate at altitudes between 700 and 900 meters, forming an arc stretching from La Can-de-l’Hospital in the west to the slopes of Mont Bougès in the east.

Brown trout (Salmo trutta fario) are abundant in the Cévennes Gardons, except in the uppermost, steepest sections where fish productivity is very low, and in the lower reaches, which are more favorable to fast-water cyprinid species.

Classified as first-category rivers in the Lozère department, the Cévennes Gardons offer crystal-clear, high-quality waters.

The Gardon of Sainte-Croix has been awarded the “River in Good Condition” label, recognizing its excellent ecological status.
