LA JONTE - MEYRUEIS

Jonte is born at an altitude of 1200 m, on the northern slopes of the Aigoual massif. Flowing on metamorphic and crystalline grounds, it reaches Meyrueis. The Jonte expands, enlarged by the waters of the streams of Brèze and Béthuzon, before engaging in its limestone gorges which it will leave only 22 km further downstream, at its confluence with the Tarn, Rozier . On all the gorge, the physicochemical qualities of the clear waters of Jonte, with a high calcium content, are very favorable to the development of a very important aquatic micro-fauna. The environment is therefore quite conducive to the development of a beautiful brown trout. The trout density is maximum of a rarely reached level! Jonte is classified in the 1st category.
