Florac is at the crossroads of three remarkable geological sites: Cevennes shale, Mont Lozère granite and Causses limestone. From the twelfth century, Florac is a small town. Its houses are clustered around the church and around the castle. Around 1130, Benedictine monks from the Abbey of la Chaise-Dieu built a convent. The city was once surrounded by a moat. Located in a place of passage, Florac becomes a small commercial city. Today it is nice to stroll through the streets, discover the many covered passages and small squares. In summer, the city reveals its small southern side. The esplanade in the shade of its plane trees and the plots invite you to rest for a drink, or have a meal.
