EGLISE NOTRE-DAME - GORGES DU TARN CAUSSES

According to the legend, a farmer would have discovered, at the beginning of the 11th century, a miraculous Virgin ploughing his field. A first church would have been built at this time. The first document mentioning the church dates back to 1365. The devotion to the Virgin attracted many pilgrims.
During the 14th century, indulgences were given to build a bridge to facilitate the access for pilgrims.
The actual church dates back to the early 15th century.
During the Religous wars, Quézac was pillaged and devastated. In 1577, Catholics take the city back. In 1579, the Capitaine Merle burned the church three times. The latter also suffered mutilations during the Revolution.
From the church built during the 15th century, only the south porch is left. Covered with a vault with toric ribs, it is flanked with two prismatic piles that allow dating it back to the end of the 14th century.
