EGLISE PAROISSIALE SAINT-PIERRE - SAINT-PIERRE-DES-TRIPIERS

On the causse Méjean, the hamlet of Saint-Pierre des Tripiers has a very interesting Romanesque church. Its construction was stretched on several stages, which is possible to see on the walls inside, and gives an overview of the village's evolution.
The choir is the primitive centre of the church, with its narrow apse surrounded by two apse chapels, and dates from the end of the 11th century. A second campaign during the 12th century enlarged the church with a nave with three bays, and later with the addition of vaulted aisles in semi-barrels. It is possible to notice the ancient bays above the south arches. The facade and its Renaissance-style gate, have most likely been rebuilt after the Religion Wars.
The church was dependent of the monastery of Le Rozier. All the buildings of the priory, arranged around a central courtyard which served as a cloister and equipped with a water tank, were added at the south of the edifice. They were recently restored and transformed in rural gites.
