COLLEGIALE DE BÉDOUES - BEDOUES-COCURES
COLLEGIALE DE BÉDOUES
48400 BEDOUES-COCURES
The Pope Urbain V was born in 1310 in the Château de Grizac (municipality of Le Pont de Montvert). He decided, through a papal bull, to build the Collégiale de Bédouès (collegiate church) to shelter the remains of the Grimoard family, his parents, in 1363. The collegiate church was built in schist stone, with a latin-cross shape, following the Religion Wars in 1580, it was rebuilt with smaller dimensions and with the shape of a greek cross.
The whole was divided in two very distinct parts, the church, consecrated to the Virgin, and above, the canon house. Other issues occur during the revolutionary period.
