48210 GORGES DU TARN CAUSSES
Nice little village built in terraces halfway up from where it dominates the valley. In the village, carved witnesses (coat of arms, windows) prove to us that it had a rich history past. From 1053, we find the presence of the Lords of Montbrun; several noble families reigned there following successive alliances. Montbrun depended on the house of Anduze, but he was also honored by the Bishop and paid the censives to the prior of Sainte-Enimie. The Lord of Charbonnières also had his share, because not far from Montbrun, the Castle of Charbonnières also played an important role. In 1580-1588 he was taken and retaken many times by Catholics and Protestants. Montbrun was looted and ravaged with his castle (of which nothing remains) and his church in 1583-1584 by Roan Frère de Merle. The church of Saint-Pierre de Montbrun was completely restored in 2009 and 2010.
