Known nowadays for its International Film Festival which takes place during mid-July, the village has kept its southern charm with its large shaded square. The origin of Vébron comes from old Occitan 'vibré' or 'vibro' which designates beavers.

The village is overlooked by the castle called 'Châteauroux', built on a schist spur, watching the valley. Several trails delimit its area: trails coming from Les Vanels, Meyrueis and Fraissinet de Fourques, from Les Rousses and Le Pompidou.

Dating from the 12th or 13th century, the history of the church Saint-Pierre de Vébron is closely linked to the village. The priory of Vébron was dependent on the monastery of Sainte-Enimie during the 14th century. Following the Religion Wars, towards 1560, the building was abandoned and destroyed. The church, rebuilt in 1687, was maintained by the family De Bernis from the Château de Salgas for a long time.
Nowadays, the building being deconsecrated, it is dedicated to the cultural life of the village.
