More discreet, at the centre of Bédouès, the chapel Saint-Saturnin, from a Romanesque origin, is interesting for the extraordinary painted decor that it shelters.
Built during the 12th century, it is the parochial church of the village. Seriously damaged in 1581 by the troops of the Protestant captain Mathieu Merle, it will find again its parochial church use after renovation works. At the beginning of the 19th century, the cult was moved to the collegiate church. In 1810, it was given up to the family of the marquis Cabot de la Fare as a funeral chapel. The marquis made paint, between 1838 and 1841, wall paintings by an italian artist. (The chapel is open all year round, everyday).
Water infiltrations have damaged these remarkable wall paintings in some places, and the stain-glass windows are tarnished.
The Fondation du Patrimoine, the Bédouès-Cocurès municipality and the association Les Compagnons de la Tour have started a crowdfunding campaign.
