The Tarn begins at an altitude of 1560 m, on the southern flank of Mont Lozère, in the north of the commune of Pont-de-Montvert. He will present, on about 100 km of his course lozer, a succession of profiles. For most of its course, the Tarn is a river of gorges. The latter are located between the localities of Quezac and Rozier over a length of 53 km. The Tarn has marked seasonal fluctuations in flow, with winter-spring floods. The low waters are in summer, from July to September. The Tarn is classified in 1st category in Lozère. The river is home to many species of fish: trout, minnows, studs, sculpin ...
