SITE NATURA 2000 - HABITATS : LES CHAUVES-SOURIS - GORGES DU TARN CAUSSES

Nearly twenty species of bats are present on the territory of the Cévennes National Park. They are found under limestone plateaus in caves and avens carved over the centuries by water. They spend the winter hibernating, for lack of insects to feed. They enter a state of lethargy that allows them to consume the fat accumulated before winter very slowly. The caves and caves, at constant temperature and humidity, offer them a shelter of choice, while waiting for the return of the warm weather and more abundant food.
